Procrastination (Life Is Short)
A few things about this one:
Firstly, it’s the song I’ve written with my new guitar, which is a lovely cherry-red Epiphone Dot 335.
Secondly, there was a bit of drama yesterday where everything was deleted, so I had to recover all the lines in 12-second snippets, all shuffled together with takes I hadn’t used. If anything sounds odd, that could be a reason.
Thirdly, I’m steering away from fake drums where I can because they sound… well, fake, so everything here is real. I’m still figuring out the best ways to do real percussion sounds though, so it is a little rough.
Besides that, this song is inspired by some stuff that’s become particularly clear to me recently. I hope you like it.
Opportunity Cost
Not really a proper recording - done so I could show a friend which song I’m hoping to perform soon.
Recorded straight through by microphone, like Feels Like was. The keyboard is a bit weak and clicky.
You may also hear a little bit of my brother and sister arguing in the background, which adds… character.
Precious
It’s the same song as I’ve already posted - the other recording has just decided to stop working. So here’s one that should work.
(What the first post said:)
Slightly corny, piano-based song about love, but not romantic kind.
First recording done on Acid (the program, not the drug.)
I know it doesn’t sound totally finished, but it’s literally been all day, and now it’s half past four and I still haven’t had breakfast. So I’m done, and here it is. Enjoy.
Headaches
A little bit of improvised recording for you on this Saturday afternoon.
Piano, acoustic guitar, synths, vocals and an assortment of unofficial percussion instruments including the teacup. Yeah.
It’s been up for a little while, but I thought I should mention it anyway. There’s now a Facebook page! So if you like the songs, it’d be cool if you also liked the page, and I’ll love you forever (which I do anyway.)
Love Song To Books
A song about escapism, basically.
It is, as almost all these songs are in some way, an experiment. A little percussion-happy, there are some timing imperfections for which I apologise, but overall it was just really fun to record and I hope you enjoy it.
Now listed as one of the writers on custommadesongs.com!
Survival
Piano, synths of all kinds, vocals and whathaveyou.
Gotta Stand On My Feet
Once-through recording of acoustic guitar song I’ve wanted to record for a little while. It’s not perfect, but neither is anything, so.
Whirlwind
Acoustic guitar, vocals.
These days, they come and go like a whirlwind; these thoughts stand like mountains in my mind.
Open Your Eyes (Laura’s Song)
A new recording of an old song, with lyrics written by the awesome Laura Masia.
It’s rather an experiment, with a bit more beat than most, perhaps all of the songs I’ve recorded before.
You can now download all the songs at the link above :)
See You ‘Round
A little, guitar-based song with some strings, harmonies and bits of this and that mixed in.
(I Can’t Do It) On My Own
Piano with a hint of synth.
It’s a little clichéd, but so are half the songs in the world, and it isn’t always a bad thing.
From The Pointless to The Point (acoustic guitar version)
A bit of an experiment, just out of interest.
The actual song is posted a page or two down from here, and on my triple j.
